Don’t Be Self-Conscious, Be Skin-Conscious

When your skin looks good (meaning refreshed and even-toned), you feel better about yourself. While good quality skin may feel like something that only someone with perfect genes can acquire, attaining it is easier than you think. Heredity can play a part in the appearance of your skin; however, the day-to-day appearance of it depends more on your daily habits (more often, your bad habits). Here are some “good” practices that all skin care routines should include to keep your skin looking and feeling its best.

Cleanse Daily

Not washing your face every day can be one of the easiest “bad habits” to fall into, yet cleansing your face is at the core of maintaining healthy facial skin. It’s true that washing your face in the morning, when you are rushing to get yourself ready for the day, or at night, when all you want is to crash into the bed, may seem like a drag; however, every day you pass on it can be harming your complexion. Cleansing your face removes the buildup of dirt, sweat, oil, and bacteria that accumulate throughout the day and night. By not getting rid of this buildup, your pores not only clog, which makes you susceptible to breakouts and uneven skin, but moisturizers and hydrators are not able to sink in.

Stay Moisturized

With all of the harsh elements that our skin is faced with, staying moisturized is no simple feat. That said, ensuring that your skin stays appropriately hydrated and moisturized is an essential step in keeping your skin looking youthful and refreshed. Dry, dehydrated skin is more prone to aging, meaning that the less you moisturize, the more likely wrinkles will develop. Establishing a consistent skin care regimen, which cleanses and moisturizes your face, will allow you to leave your worries behind.

Wear Sunscreen

The single greatest sin when it comes to the health and quality of your skin is likely not a surprise. From a young age, we are all told of the importance of wearing sunscreen, and that importance cannot be overstated. Sunscreen not only protects us against skin cancers, but it also keeps our skin looking its healthiest. While many people feel that the suntans of their youths will keep them looking young and healthy, the effects of those tans may not be so pretty down the line. Sunscreen protects our skin from ultraviolet (UV) rays. UV rays cause our skin to develop age (dark) spots and wrinkles, not to mention that it breaks down the skin, resulting in diminished tone and texture. While many moisturizers and foundations include an SPF, it is often not strong enough to adequately protect your skin. To keep your complexion looking radiant, you should consider using at least SPF 30 every day.

Deep Clean

Proper at-home skin care can work wonders with keeping your complexion healthy, but even the most consistent regimen may leave you wanting more. Adding routine chemical peels can be the final step in attaining and maintaining confidence-enhancing skin. Chemical peels are designed to exfoliate and rejuvenate the skin by literally removing all of the impurities that leave your skin looking dull, tired, and uneven. Chemical peels are offered in a variety of strengths that are designed to fit every skin type. Leave your skin worries behind and welcome in the days of youthful-looking, radiant skin.
