Liposuction in Dallas, TX

Liposuction surgery is very common and can achieve high levels of success. Many patients who are otherwise in good physical shape but who have stubborn areas of unwanted fat deposits are usually the best candidates for liposuction surgery. Other patients who are actively working on their shape with diet and exercise, but who are having difficulty with selected areas of stubborn fat, are also good candidates. These procedures are an excellent means of enhancing and sculpting existing shapes and curves in the body, or uncovering curves that never seemed to exist previously.

Understanding the unique anatomy of specific fat pockets in the body is key to effective delivery of liposuction techniques and essential in achieving a successful outcome. Liposuction is not simply placing a cannula under the skin and suctioning fat. It is more of a sculpting technique whereby excess fat in a specific plane is removed using specific techniques for each area. Also, the shape and quality of the remaining thin planes of fat is critical in achieving excellent results. The sculpted, thinned fat planes that are left in are just as important as the volume of fat that is removed. Therefore, a name which better describes the techniques employed by Dr. Carpenter is Liposculpture.

Benefits of Liposuction Surgery:

  • Sculpted Contours – Liposuction is designed to refine the curves of the body to create a smoother, more pleasing physique. This fat reduction procedure effectively sculpts body contours, revealing a slender and fitter-looking figure.
  • Customized Results –  Due to the versatile nature of the procedure, liposuction can be customized to each patient’s specific cosmetic goals. With liposuction, patients can pinpoint problem areas to eliminate pockets of fat that resist diet and exercise efforts.

The Patient Experience

The patient experience begins with a thorough review of the surgical plan “the blueprint” and after care instructions with Dr. William Carpenter. All surgical procedures are performed entirely and only by Dr. Carpenter.

Typically, general anesthesia is used during liposuction surgery. However, local anesthesia and sedation may be appropriate for procedures that require minor correction. Sterile tumescent fluid is injected into the treatment area to facilitate the sculpting process and minimize postoperative swelling and bruising. A thin, hollow tub (cannula) is inserted in the target area to remove localized excess fat using suction technology. The remaining tissue is sculpted with the cannula to produce smooth and precise contours. Depending on the procedures personalized for each liposuction patient, surgery can take anywhere from two to four hours.

Surgical procedures are performed under general anesthesia by M.D. anesthesiologists in state-of-the-art, licensed and accredited surgery centers specializing in outpatient and overnight care. Cases that involved minor or limited areas of liposuction can be performed utilizing local anesthesia with sedation.

After surgery, post surgical dressings and garments are placed and then the patient is transferred to a private recovery room where one-on-one nursing care is provided.  Most liposuction patients are discharged after recovery, however, some patients prefer to stay overnight for optimal comfort and nursing care.

With overnight cases, patients in the surgery center will get a post op visit the next morning from Dr. Carpenter where incision sites are reviewed and dressings and garments are changed. Once it is determined the patient can be released to go home, they will need a friend or relative to drive them home.

For optimal comfort, patients should plan to have assistance during post operative recovery for the first 24 to 48 hours.

Patients are seen in Dr. Carpenter’s office typically five to seven days following surgery and need to plan to come back for follow-up appointments at six weeks, and six months after their procedure.

Like any surgical procedure, liposuction recovery occurs in stages. Generally, patients feel mild discomfort, usually with a sensation of a bruise and are prescribed pain relief prescriptions during the initial stage of recovery. Most patients only need over-the-counter pain medication 48 hours after their procedure.

Typically, patients feel well enough to return to work after a few days to one week, depending on the extent of surgery, but some may necessitate more at-home recovery before working. Vigorous activities and physical exercise must be avoided for a period of time as specified by Dr. Carpenter.

Immediately following surgery there will be an notable improvement in the contours of the sites treated, and within the next several weeks, the results become even more obvious and aesthetically attractive.
